This GCF small group will study the last book of the Bible. Revelation has been used and abused by so many Christians that many see it as a book best to keep closed. But do not fear, for this book is meant to be read and to be a source of encouragement to Christians for all the ages.

However, it must first be understood within its original contexts. That is, a literal reading of Revelation requires us to understand what the author meant his original audience to understand. We must refrain from reading our own culture and historical and social contexts into the text. It was written first to its first-century readers of the churches it addresses. Once we pay careful attention to these contexts we can then cautiously explore what God wants us to learn through Revelation.

No end-of-times charts are needed or desired.

We will study this book using the manuscript method. The manuscript is provided so you may mark it up in any way that best helps you see and understand what you're reading. We will then discuss our observations together seeking to get at an apt interpretation so we can then apply whatever it is that God intends for us today as the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
